I started testing AI companion apps out of personal curiosity — and found that almost every review online was either written by someone who used the free tier for 20 minutes, or was clearly written to promote a specific platform. I wanted something different: long-term testing, real cost tracking, and honest verdicts even when the affiliate commission would be higher if I ranked things differently.

Every platform reviewed on this site has been tested on a paid account, in real usage conditions, for at least 30 days. OurDream AI and Candy AI were tested in parallel for 90 days. The scores reflect that testing — not a PR brief.

Methodology

How We Test

Every review follows the same process — no shortcuts, no exceptions.

Paid accounts only
Every platform is tested on a paid subscription. Free tiers are noted but never used as the basis for scoring. All in-app costs are tracked from day one.

Minimum 30 days
Short-term impressions don't reveal memory behaviour, consistency issues, or how billing compounds over time. Main reviews run 30–90 days of actual use.

Standardised tests
Memory is tested with recall prompts at days 7, 14, 30, and 60. Voice is tested across 5 emotional contexts. Image quality uses the same prompt set across all platforms.
💰
Real cost tracking
Every token, Neuron, and DreamCoin purchase is logged. Reported "real monthly cost" figures reflect actual spend by an active user — not just the headline subscription price.

Updated regularly
Pricing, features, and app behaviour change. Pages are reviewed and updated at minimum every 90 days. The date at the top of each review reflects last verification.

Privacy verified
Terms of service and privacy policies are read in full. Billing discretion is tested by checking how charges appear on statements. Encryption claims are cross-checked against documentation.
